Guide to the Appalachian Trail in Pennsylvania (The Appalachian Trail Guide Series, Vol 5)
Published in Paperback by Appalachian Trail Conference (01 October, 1998)
Authors: Appalachian Trail Conference and Wayne Gross
Average review score:

Pennsylvania Hiking Trails
Overall this book describes all of Pennsylvania's hiking trails. Pennsylvania has over three thousand miles of hiking trails, so it is important to find a good book the depicts all of them. It also includes several modern waterproof topographical maps that are very useful with navigation of the trail. Longitude and latitude are availible for compass and navigation headers. However while this book is an excelent guide, it does seem to be never-ending with the trails. There is always one after another. Although this is one of my favority hiking guides. The philosophy of the book states, "The basic goal of this edition is to provide the hiker with a comprehensive list of available hiking areas and trails". This book is still not limited to trails alone, it shows helpful places to camp, and to restock supplies. This book was written with the help of the Keystone Trails Association which is an alliance of Pennsylvania organization's which share the belief of helping hikers. This book is an excelent guide.

Hike America Pennsylvania
Published in Paperback by Globe Pequot Pr (May, 2001)
Author: John Young
Average review score:

Mostly short hikes
The book is mostly on hikes of less than 10 miles. It is divided into sections of PA and each section has some hikes for wildlife, scenery and good views from ridges. I'd have liked some 50 mile hikes, though. If you've been hiking in your section for a few years, then I would look elsewhere for information (you've probably been on most of the trails mentioned).

Imap New York
Published in Paperback by Rand McNally & Co (December, 2000)
Authors: Group Map, Imaps, and Map Group
Average review score:

beautiful, has clean layout
Similar to Streetwise, and Berndtson & Berndtson, this laminated map neatly folds away for quick storage. In IMAP "New York", only the borough of Manhattan is featured, with downtown Manhattan on one side, and Manhattan up to 110th street on the other. In detail, the New York map is slightly difficult to read because most streets are rendered as thin pen strokes. Icons of museums, hotels, attractions, and transportation facilities are noted in colorful detail. IMAP comes with a mini guidebook, and a small compass.

Read the Infortunate
This book is a great way to learn about early American life in the cities. It is well written in a very unique first person, and true.

I read it in college and loved it, and i think that it would still be a good read for anyone highschool to adult. It's a quick read.

Handy Simple Guidebook, Good For NYC Newbies
I bought twenty-five of these and gave them out to twenty-five out-of-town (Midwest) couples that I hosted for a bus tour of NYC on the day after my daughter's wedding. I wanted something nicely printed and not too expensive with good photos that would serve to help my guests remember their day in the City. There were lots of choices on the shelves of .... , where I made my selection before ordering from Amazon. This book seemed to fit my needs best. Insight publishes a larger version of this same guide; and I had that in my pocket as I played tour guide.

Islands of the Mid-Maine Coast: Pemaquid Point to the Kennebec River
Published in Hardcover by Tilbury House Publishers (March, 1995)
Author: Charles B. McLane
Average review score:

Ah View !
The crisp blue waters that fill the pale seaweed laden rocks of the Maine coast are simply breathtaking. This book is yet another example of how words just can't do justice. The area covered in this title is some of the hardest to write about without relying on amazing facts of the historical importance of the Maine coastline, yet the author does an outstanding job of putting the historical, artistic and wildlife qualities into context. As a guide for the area and for pleasure reading, this book has exemplary qualities to keep you interested from front cover to the last page. The one shortfall that I found was there wasn't enough of it, which is probably good since the point of the book is for you get out and see this "Gods Country" for yourself! Overall I can completely recommend this book if you are a "Mainiac," or just on vacation in this part of the world (believe me you'll feel like you're out of the USA). Read it, love it, put it down and experience it !

Madison Avenue
Published in Hardcover by Scalo Verlag Ac (December, 1999)
Author: Mathias Braschler
Average review score:

The Cosmos as a Street
Swiss photographer, Mathias Braschler, shoots the denizens of New York's famed Madison Avenue. Taking his camera, over an 8 month period, up and down this one avenue, he reveals an urban portrait in naked black and white. These portraits show all the flaws, addictions, energy, broken dreams, fatigue and hopes of the myriad of people who live or work on Madison. Braschler shows us "the good, the bad, and the ugly", the immigrants, the executives, the old, the style-makers, and the rich. Most portraits are enhanced with one line quotations by the subjects, authenticating Braschler's stark vision. Although a "coffee-table" style book, the realities are occasionally sufficiently distressing to make strong social comment. At other times there is amusement, poignancy, and poetry.

Mid-Atlantic Budget Angler: Fly-Fishing for Trout in Delaware, Ma
Published in Paperback by Stackpole Books (January, 1998)
Author: Ann McIntosh
Average review score:

A unique guide to the Mid-Atlantic's best fly fishing spots
Members of Trout Unlimited (TU) have had the pleasure of reading Ann McIntosh's "Budget Angler" in "Trout" magazine for a number of years. Her long awaited book won't disappoint TU members and, likely, a whole new group of fans.

"Mid-Atlantic Budget Angler" offers something often hard to find in flyfishing literature: useful information. Ms. McIntosh describes some of the region's best flyfishing spots, some well-known, others not so well known. She describes stream conditions, gives understandable directions and offers tips on fishing conditions, stream idiosyncracies, places to stay and much more.

For flyfishers seeking practical information on flyfishing in the Mid-Atlantic region, this book may well become the bible.

Mid-Atlantic Gardener's Guide: Delaware, Maryland, Virginia, Washington, D.C
Published in Paperback by Cool Springs Press (April, 2004)
Authors: Andre Viette, Mark Viette, and Jacqueline Heriteau
Average review score:

pretty good
I like that this book is specifically about the area in which I live. There's lots of good info here. I wish there had been more flowers listed, though. I wanted to find a smorgasbord of pretty, interesting and different flowers from which to choose. (I'm not looking to plant trees, so I just skipped over that section.) I think this book is a pretty good resource for neophyte or relatively new gardeners in the Mid-Atlantic.
